"Walking Blessed" Tuesday Psalm 1:1-3

“What delight comes to those who follow God’s way. They won’t walk in step with the wicked,
    nor share the sinner’s way,
nor be found sitting in the scorner’s seat.
Their pleasure and passion is remaining true to the Word of ‘I Am,’
meditating day and night in his true revelation of light.
They will be standing firm like a flourishing tree
    planted by God’s design,
deeply rooted by the brooks of bliss,
bearing fruit in every season of their lives.
They are never dry, never fainting,
    ever blessed, ever prosperous.

Psalm 1:1-3 (TPT)

This passage in Psalms addresses a common issue we see all around us today. We live in a world where we are lacking the wholeness which only becomes available to us through restored relationship with God our Father. Therefore one elusive state of being becomes the primary motivator behind many pursuits. That state is happiness.

Although defined different ways most people would acknowledge that to be “happy” is an essential part of a good life. The word “blessed” in our passage above comes from a Hebrew word “esher” which simply means “happiness” or “happy”. The bold conclusion which our Psalmist relays in this passage is that true happiness is only found in following God’s ways.

He goes on to state that those who do walk in God’s ways enjoy His goodness which makes them fruitful, fully alive and experiencing true prosperity both internally and externally. God lives in joy, peace, love, hope, freedom and so much more. He is the God of all these good things.

To learn and walk in His ways is to learn how to experience all that He is.

Then, who He is and what He has becomes the reality we experience in our lives. Just think about that. What would it be like to have all that God is and all that He has filling up our lives continually? Well, as our Psalmist reveals, it is possible and the result is a prosperity of the soul and heart that no external pursuit for fame, wealth, beauty or notoriety could produce.

There is a description found in verse three of this portion of scripture which describes a person who is fully alive and happy to be themselves.

Every boundary that God set up for us to avoid sin is in place to keep us from sins destruction.

Many other places in scripture highlight the benefits of knowing and following God perhaps most notably Romans 12:2

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (NLT)

As this scripture points out, God has a good and pleasing will for us. He has good intentions towards us. To follow Him and let His goodness shape the way we think and believe is ultimately a pleasing thing for us or in other words has the potential to make us happy.

The pursuit of happiness is realized in the pursuit of God.

May you be happy in God today. Ask Him to show you His thoughts and “ways” concerning whatever you are facing. I pray as your heart lines up with His you will experience all the good He has for you radiating inside you.
