"Face to Face" Tuesday Psalm 16:1
“For you bring me a continual revelation of resurrection life,
the path to the bliss that brings me face-to-face with you.”
Psalm 16:11 (TPT)
Do you know how close God really wants to be with you? What The Passion Translation translates this portion of this verse as “the path to the bliss which brings me face to face with you” other translations such as the English Standard Version render “your presence”. Interestingly, there is no Hebrew word for “presence” and therefore the word most often translated as “presence” is the word “paniym” which means “face”. A good example of this is when the bible describes the relationship God had with a man named Moses,
“The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.” Exodus 33:11
Face to face…like a friend.
That is an incredible thought. God relating to a human being like a friend.
Jesus seemingly carried the theme forward when He exclaimed to His disciples,
”I no longer call you servants but friends” John 15:15
Just in case there could be some temptation to say Jesus only said that to a select 12 individuals He walked with during His time on earth, in the same discussion He made a statement which broadens the scope of friendship with Him to anyone who would believe in receive His finished work on the cross.
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:13
Jesus was God in the flesh carrying out the purpose and desires of God. We can conclude then that God desires us to be His friend. Wow what a thought.
God wants you and me as friends.
Do you believe that? I know I am ever growing in my capacity to believe and understand this relationship changing truth. You see this reality absolutely changes the way we relate to God. If we believe we are mere servants we will never recognize His desire to be with us and co-work with us. Jesus gave insights into one of the major “perks” of this relationship when He explained that friends of His are let in on the mysteries and truths of God and His kingdom. Friends of God hear His voice and have the opportunity to experience His wisdom and love in deep ways.
It is a truth which alters the proximity in which we relate to God. He called us friends before we ever wanted to be friends with Him.
Today, if you know God I pray revelation and His peace flows into your heart from the reality of His desire to have you as His friend. He does not want you to stay at a distance but to come close, ask Him questions, listen for this reply and walk in deeper relationship with Him.
You’re welcome in His presence. Just like Moses, He wants to meet with you face to face.
“May God be merciful and bless us.
May his face smile with favor on us”
Psalm 67:1 (NLT)
