"Precious Thoughts" Tuesday Psalm 139:17-18
“How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
They cannot be numbered!
I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
you are still with me!”
Psalm 139:17-18 (NLT)
Have you ever experienced a negative reaction to the idea that God thinks about you? What kind of thoughts do you believe He has about you? When things like condemnation lurk in our hearts it causes us to develop blockages or walls to receiving the revelation of Gods love for us. I recently discovered an almost barely perceivable blockage in my own heart with the idea of God having thoughts about me. I realized in a certain area I was expecting God’s thoughts about me to be negative in some fashion.
David, the Psalmist of our passage, proclaims that God thinks about Him alot but nowhere in this passage does he hint that that could be a bad thing. Instead he concludes the opposite. God knows everything about us, yes even the worst. As I walk through Holy Spirit led inner healing in different areas of my life I am constantly discovering that my “worst” isn’t what God is focused on. We are always walking in some level of sin or distance from him even without knowing it.
The reality is He doesn’t just know what we think, believe and do - He knows why we think, believe and do what we do. He knows the pain, life experience, lies we’ve believed and how we grew up etc. which all lead to the place we are at now.
Religion can try to convince us that He is only focused on our partnership with sin or failure. Relationship with Him teaches us otherwise.
His thoughts about us are precious and numerous. He will deal with anything that is destroying us and ultimately our relationship with Him and sin always destroys on some level. All behavior is the result of what we truly believe about God, ourselves and the world around us.
When we come to Him led by His Spirit to confess a lie we’ve believed or a desire to re-align ourselves with His truth and purposes (a.k.a repentance) He is always ready to forgive and cleanse us from unrighteousness. The bible also states that He forgets the sin from that point on (Hebrews 8:12).
He is not mulling over our failures when He looks at us. He’s thinking of the dream He had in His heart when He created us.
The thoughts He has towards us come out of the great love He has for us.
If you are feeling condemnation, shame, or some form of negativity in regards to the truth that God is thinking about you ask Father to show you what He thinks of you. Be open to the different ways He may respond via scripture, a mental picture, a word or sentence or any other way you feel Him leading you.
If you become aware of a way you are currently living or believing that is out of alignment with His will simply confess it to Him and receive His forgiveness (1 John 1:9).
His thoughts of us are “precious” and we need to hear what He thinks of us often becuaes His love is steady unlike the world we live in. I pray today you will hear and believe what Father God really thinks about you and that any opposing voice will be silenced.
In my book, “Servant Sons and Daughters” I dive deeper into the relationship God wants to have with us as sons and daughters. You can learn more about this book here:
