Hope is Found

Does anything in our world truly feel unshakable? Just a small amount of time spent grazing the pages of world news available on social media makes the world feel anything but stable. Relationships are fragile; without dedication and the acquisition of positive traits such as love, humility, honour, a forgiving heart etc., many of them will not survive long. Economies fluctuate and freak storms pound highly populated parts of the earth. It all does seem a bit out of control. At this point, it may be sounding like I'm about to begin writing a continuation to the book of Ecclesiastes with the same conclusion that everything is STILL meaningless…but I’m not.

In fact right here I’m going to go in the exact opposite direction and discuss the hottest commodity much of the world is longing to find – Hope.

Hope seems to get overshadowed at times by another bible favorite Faith. Hope, however, is not Faith’s wimpy younger sibling and it is not synonymous with “wishing” something would happen.

In the bible Hope is portrayed as a powerful assurance that something will happen. Founded upon God's promises and the faithfulness of His character, Hope marches forward when doubt and fear run away.

“Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord His God.” (Ps.146:5).

Hope is the antidote to the depression the world finds itself in.

Yet, hope must be grounded on something stable. In Psalm 33 verse 18 we find one thing upon which all our hope can firmly rest:

“Behold the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His steadfast love”

The word steadfast means: fixed in direction; firm in purpose, resolution, faith; unwavering.

Wow…this is a description of the love of our Father.

Fixed in direction. Firm in purpose. Unwavering.

His love offers what nothing in this world can; a safe place to let our hearts and our hope rest in. This verse encourages us to let our hope be in not only who God is but also His great love for us. Becoming convinced in our hearts of His great love for us will remove fear from us (1 John 4:18) and combat the doubt which tries to plague us.

It is in His love that Hope is found.

It is in His love that Hope is found.

Without an experiential knowledge of His love we will not hope for all the good things He promises to give us. We are all, the whole earth, dependent upon His steadfast love whether we are aware of it or not. If for a moment He turned back on one of His promises or decided He was no longer going to love us we would be quickly destroyed. But here’s the thing;

He won’t. Not now, not ever!

Love is who He is (1 John 4:8). He Himself is steadfast and unmovable. He does not change. How great is our God! And how great a hope we have in Him. Let your hope be found in His steadfast love for you today.
